Indices of Deprivation
The Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has published the English Indices of Deprivation for local authorities and lower-level super output areas (LSOAs).
The Indices of Deprivation are a group of measures of relative deprivation for areas in England. The indices provide deprivation scores and ranking for each LSOA in England. The IoD25 release is comprised of 55 indicators. These indicators are grouped into seven domains, each measuring a different type of deprivation: Income Deprivation, Employment Deprivation, Education, Skills and Training Deprivation, Health and Disability, Crime, Barriers to Housing and Services and Living Environment Deprivation. There are also supplementary indices concerned with Income Deprivation Affecting Children Index (IDACI) and Income Deprivation Affecting Older People Index (IDAOPI).
Two Indices of Deprivation LG Inform reports are available to all users for single tier and district comparisons. Indices of Deprivation - LG Inform and Indices of Deprivation (Part II) - LG Inform
We are pleased to say that all indices are now available in LG Inform Plus to subscribers. We have also produced this data for many other geographies such as wards, parliamentary constituencies and combined authorities. If these geographies are not what you are looking for, our Natural Neighbourhoods tool lets you create your own bespoke geographies which can be used with this data or any other dataset in LG Inform Plus.
You can either view and download these metrics through one of our LGA's Deprivation reports or create your own reports using the data from the 2025 indices, or any of the other metrics in the system.
As a subscriber you have access to the summary reports listed here as well as access to reports for each domain and sub-domain.

How we source the data
The indices were published here by MHCLG on 30 October 2025. For wards and other types of area without published indices, we have calculated deprivation by aggregating up values for LSOAs whose population-weighted centroids fall within the ward (or other type of area). We weight LSOA values by population, using the appropriate (resident, child, older person, etc) population figure.
