Office for National Statistics Private rent statistics have been added to LG Inform.

The average monthly private rental price for all properties in England for June 2025 was £1,399 compared to £1,311 for June 2024. For the latest month average private rental for properties with one bedroom was £1,147, for two bedrooms £1,279, for three bedrooms £1,421, and for four plus bedrooms £2,082. The area with the highest average monthly rental price for a two bedroom property was Westminster at £3,353 with the lowest average Hartlepool at £504.

Average monthly private rental price for detached properties in England for June 2025 was £1,575, for semi-detached properties £1,384, terraced properties £1,369, and for flats and maisonettes £1,391. The average monthly rent for a flat or maisonette in London for June 2025 was £1,988 (£1,849 in June 2024) a 7.0% increase, compared to the North East which was £620 (£563 in June 2024) a 9.2% increase.

The Regulator of Social Housing separate metrics for average weekly social and affordable rents are now in LG Inform. The average weekly net rent – general needs (social rent) as of 31 March 2024 in England was £99.75 up from £93.10 in 2023. For supported housing (social rent) it was £87.41 up from £81.46 the previous year.

Average weekly gross rent – Affordable Rent general needs for England as of 31 March 2024 was £150.32 up from £137.65 in 2023. Some authorities have no stock of the specified type held by any Local Authority Registered Provider (LARP) within the area, meaning a rent average cannot be calculated.
