New Data - Energy Efficiency of Housing
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) statistics for Energy Efficiency of Housing have been added to LG Inform for the first time at single tier and district council level. This collection brings together data on Median estimated CO2 emissions (by dwelling type, existing/new property and tenure), Median energy efficiency score (by dwelling type, existing/new property, tenure and property age), Percentage of dwellings with EPC Band 'C' or above (by dwelling type, existing/new property, tenure and property age), and Percentage of dwellings by main fuel type or method of heating used in central heating.
In England for 2023/24, the Median estimated Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions (tonnes/year) for existing dwellings was 3.3 Tonnes compared to 1.3 Tonnes for new dwellings. The Median energy efficiency score for existing dwellings was 66 compared to 84 for new dwellings.
In England, for 2023/24 49.83 per cent of dwellings were rated with EPC Band 'C' or above, this compared to 46.60 per cent in 2022/23. The local authority with the highest proportion of properties with EPC Band 'C' or above was Tower Hamlets at 80.89 per cent. 36.60 per cent of owner-occupied, 43.53 per cent of private rent, and 62.68 per cent of social rent dwelling were rating Band āCā or above.
The latest data for England shows 79.08 per cent of dwelling use mains gas central heating, 10.88 per cent electricity central heating, 2.65 per cent oil central heating and 0.03 per cent renewable energy (including heat pumps).
