New Data - Patient Discharge Dates
NHS England monthly data for the Discharge ready date has been added to LG Inform for the first time. This is the time from a patient’s discharge-ready date to their actual date of discharge and is based on the postcode of the patient.
In England for November 2024, the percentage of people who were discharged 1 or more days after their discharge ready date was 13.3 per cent. Of these, 0.7 per cent were discharged after 21 days or more. The percentage of people who were delayed in their discharge, but discharged within 1 day of delay was 33.2 per cent for England. The area with the highest average length of delay (excluding delays of less than 1 day) was Calderdale at 16.3 days for November 2024.
Total acute bed days lost to delay in England for November 2024 was 258,184 compared to 268,933 in October 2024. Total acute bed days lost where the person was delayed but discharged within 21 days or more for England in November 2024 was 87,098, compared to 93,275 in October 2024.
