New Data - Respiratory disease

Respiratory disease profile from the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) has been added to LG Inform for the first time. In England for 2023/24, the Asthma prevalence (6+ years) was 6.5 per cent, unchanged from 2022/23.

The Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) prevalence (all ages) was 1.9 per cent (1.8 per cent in 2022/23). The region with the highest rate was the North East at 2.8 per cent compared to London at 1.0 per cent.

Mortality rate from respiratory disease per 100,000 population in England for the 3-year period 2020-2022 was 102.8, an improvement from 109.1 in 2019-2021. Mortality rate from COPD per 100,000 population for the same 3-year period was 42.8, a decrease from 44.9. Blackpool at 79.9 was the area with the highest mortality rate from COPD, at 20.6 Rushcliffe had the lowest rate.
