New metrics - Mean Universal Credit and housing benefit payments

We have added Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) mean Universal Credit and housing benefit payments to LG Inform and LG Inform Plus for the first time.

Mean of payment amount to households on Universal Credit for the latest period November 2023 in England was £815.13 up from £732.45 in November 2022. The area with the highest mean Universal Credit payment was in Barnet at £1,133.85 compared to £699.61 in Ribble Valley.

The latest data shows the mean payment to households with housing entitlement for England was £1,035.00 compared to the mean payment to households with no housing entitlement which was £439.05.

For claimants on housing benefit, the mean weekly award for November 2023 in England was £130.55 compared to £120.17 in November 2022. The highest housing benefit average award was in Brent at £222.46 and the lowest average was in Barnsley at £88.14.
