Review of the Year 2022 - ONS Census 2021: new data additions and new reports released

At the end of June, we were delighted to see the Office for National Statistics (ONS) publish the first results from the Census 2021. At this time, the new data was at the local authority level and included rounded population and household estimates by sex and five-year age bands.

To view examples of this new data and benchmark your data against others we created a new Research Report – Usual Resident Population by Sex and Age for Your Area.

At the beginning of November, ONS published its first batch of results for the areas by which local authorities are sub-divided (Output Areas). This data is now available from LG Inform Plus via our reports, data tool and application programming interface (API).

For example:

Data on residents such as Population density by LSOA: Report | Data tool and Residents by sex by LSOA: Report | Data tool and by Ward Report | Data tool. For full details see our news article on the early November release here.

Details of new metrics published are also available as a Google sheet or a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.

We also released our new report: People and Place Profile for your chosen area: Census 2021. This is available to all users of organisations subscribed to LG Inform Plus. Our unsubscribed users can also view an example of the report here.

The new data throws light on some important topics for health and social care, as illustrated in this article: Where are your centenarians?

On 29th November 2022, ONS’s second batch of results from the 2021 Census for the areas by which local authorities are sub-divided was released. The release also includes new data for entire local authorities. See this special newsletter for all the details of this release.

Finally, on 8th December, ONS published data on ‘Economic Activity’ and ‘Status’. You can read more about what was contained in this release here.
