Open UPRNs and open data

In July, Ordnance Survey published Unique Property Reference Numbers (UPRNs), along with their geographical coordinates as open data under the Open Government Licence.

The location addresses associated with each UPRN were not made open, so we sought clarification of how open UPRNs might be used alongside other open data. We understand the conclusion to be that UPRNs can be published openly associated with locations data gleaned from open sources. However a licence is required to determine the UPRNs for such locations.

The document Use of URPNs in open data (PDF) provides further explanation.
